Mmm the Desert.
After living in Eugene for a few months now, we thought it was time for a road trip. We drove over the continental divide to Bend, Oregon. All I can say is why did we leave the desert!!! As soon as we reached the rain shadow of the cascades, I could feel the crisp dry air on my skin. Even though it was 85f , it felt so much cooler. I forgot how clammy humid air makes you feel. As we drove down from the divide we passed groves of old growth Poderosa pines. The tree trunks were thick and orangish and the undergrowth was a patchwork of blue sage deep green ferns.
As our elevation decreased Pondersoa pines gave way to Juniper and pinyon pines. The ground became dry and dusty. The ground was covered with sage and the air had sharp new smells. They sky was a deep blue with a few sacattered clouds.
